: Ethiopian Funeral Ritual

Funeral ritual for Nachugora Duma in Tulgit involves women relatives of the husband’s family. They are responsible for funerals even if the deceased woman’s husband dies before her. After bringing her body to the clinic, they waited for relatives arrive.  Then they bound her body in a blanket with knees at her chest and attached her to a pole. Circling rocks three times, she was carried to a makeshift grave that was filled with heavy rocks for protection. These are the traditions in tribal regions of the Omo River Valley in Ethiopia.
