: Building the First Bridge
Change is coming: Chinese drilling for oil are gearing up for resource extraction. The first good road is coming into the area, and the village of Omorate will have the first bridge in the entire Omo Valley. A construction worker helps to build one of the supports. The bridge will allow tourists from Kenya and truck drivers to bring supplies and aid from NGOs. The river will no longer flood and water crops to supply food, however, and the tribes in this valley will have to find other kinds of work to survive. They will need to integrate with the emerging culture the new road and bridge will bring. The bridge has been planned for 22 years.
