Mazes are single males living in the period between a boy and a man. They are paid to run the manhood ceremony for tribes in the Omo River Valley.

Arm upraised to strike, a Maze participates in the whipping of women before the bull jumping ritual begins. Women taunt the men and are scarred from the beatings which is also proof that they supported the men.
