There are many impressive structures in Detroit waiting to be restored such as the Whitney Building that stands adjacent to Grand Circus Park at 1553 Woodward Avenue. David Whitney Jr, a wealthy Detroit lumber baron hired famed Chicago architect Daniel Burnham who styled a Neo-Renaissance style building with terra cotta and glazed brick. The first four stories contain a large retail atrium with a glass skylight ceiling with 19 floors at the rear of the building for office and a penthouse.
