Change is coming: There is a new bridge being built over the Omo. The Chinese are drilling for oil and are gearing up for other resource extraction. The first good road is coming into the area and the village Omorate will have the first bridge in the entire valley. This construction worker is helping build one of the supports. The bridge will bring lorries of tourists up from Kenya and deliveries of aid from NGOs. The truck drivers and tourists will increase the already difficult sex tourism trade in the area. The river will no longer supply food and the tribes of this valley will have to do other kinds of work to survive. They will need to integrate with the culture that this new road and new bridge will bring them. The bridge has been planned for 22 years and is just now being built.
